Games We Play - Camden Assembly
Games We Play played their first headline sold-out show in a different county aka outside of America. Their show sold out in under 1 minute which is just insane but not surprising as the fans were insane!
This gig had a really diverse crowd, from the girls, gays and theys, to the parents of emo teens with their emo teens in toe and most shockingly the London financial bro - but it was a Sunday so they weren’t in suits but instead in their formal Sunday attire of boat shoes and chino shorts. Every person there was great and the variety in the audience really added to the atmosphere. The venue had a capacity of 220 and every person there created a fun and friendly crowd. They knew all the words and everyone was jumping around and having and immense time.
You may be aware that Games We Play don’t yet have a massive discography and after seeing them support All Time Low back in March I wasn’t sure if their set would be a 75/25% split of cover songs vs their own songs. But no, we got a real insight into the new album, which I personally wasn’t very excited for - I was worried it was going to be a cookie-cutter album about the breakdown of this marriage that the record label was pushing. I was getting “Joshua Bassett - Crisis” vibe (still a great song but you know what I mean). Until Lead Singer, Emmyn, spoke about it and explained the song with depth and emotion, you could feel how therapeutic it was for him to make this album. And at this point, the universe just wanted to prove me wrong with my assumptions.
Overall, I really did enjoy this show. I can understand why he’s been on tour with Youngblood, All Time Low and Fall Out Boy and has cultivated a friendship with them. I do feel like they are very much on the start of their journey and they will go from strength to strength. I personally feel like they care about their fans, they care about their music and they want their songs to be the best they can possibly be. This has made me excited for the new album and I’m still singing “Pretty Boy” in my head on repeat.
Don’t forget Games We Play ‘s new album “Life’s Going Great” out on the 6th October 2023.
