Christy - Sold Out Show. 23rd May 2023 - The Waiting Room, London.

Christy, the singer-songwriter from Scotland, played his second night at The Waiting Room in London, and I’m glad I caught the second night - let the first night be a warm-up!

I loved it! 120 people in a basement venue meant the vibe was just right for this time in his career. And even though it was in London, there were so many Scottish fans cheering him on that it could have been mistaken for a show in his hometown. The best way to describe it was that the vibes were not only flowing but top-notch.

He sold out both nights (which is impressive), and he had devoted fans who came to watch the show on both nights. I’m not going to lie. I’m a fan of Christy. I enjoy his honest music, and I can confirm that he is genuinely a very lovely guy through and through. I think it adds to the live performance when he performs “Dance with Air” he gets into the crowd and plays songs acoustically and sings with no mic, only being lit up by the array of phone flashes from the audience. He is a performer - with so many different guitars for different songs, and the mix between going solo and having a full band shows how he shines as a solo artist and demonstrates his capabilities as a genuinely talented singer. Each version of his performance has pros and cons, and I think that every show and set benefits from both sides. 

I was excited to hear that Christy is bringing out an album at the end of the year if everything goes well. It’s something that I feel is a little overdue at this point. Maybe it’s just my age, but it feels like there has been a shift in priority for artists recently - I’m not sure why. It could be due to streaming or the need to go viral on TikTok, but I personally feel that albums, and music videos, are more regularly being pushed to the side and are a lower priority for artists. I’m not saying it's a bad thing. I’m just a sucker for a good storytelling album that has to be played to experience it truly. 

Special mention to Jennifer Stewart, who was the support act for both shows. She has a very simple but effective stage set-up, accompanied by male backing vocals and an electric guitar. Jessica definitely gives off very cool girl vibes while still being the type of person you could approach if she were your neighbour. She played a complete support set, with a mixture of unreleased and new songs which are coming out this summer, such as ‘Someone New’. If you need a break-up song to add to your sad summer playlist, Jennifer’s song “Drag Me Down” should definitely be added in.
